Other information:

(Susan Burns MA LMHC DAPA FNBCCH)

From my Bellevue office, I direct my counseling, hypnotherapy, and coaching to children, adults, families, professionals, and groups and often work with organizations.

My private practice is client centered with an expansive toolkit of methods developed over nearly 40 years of human service work, personal and professional development, and community leadership. I value and hold a client’s experience, grounding a holistic approach which selectively implements a wide range of resources, and carries the client’s own unique process.

Prior to counseling I was a licensed special educator, learning specialist, Montessori teacher, and a public school educator at all levels of education. Channeling these skills into my counseling practice 25 years ago, I focused on the special needs of children and their families (individual, family, and group therapy) in my clinical office and on school sites. I continue effective individual and group work with children and consult with schools and professional teams regularly.

I have also been an adult health educator and licensed wellness specialist, developing health promotion programs for adults and senior citizens still in effect in Seattle’s major hospitals (Group Health and Providence, other community centers). I added to this foundation of health and wellness, advanced training in mind/body applications including advanced clinical hypnotherapy, art and movement therapy, and somatics (the wisdom of the body). I attune and work very empathically with deeper health issues and clear anxiety and trauma. I have worked successfully over many years with a variety of conditions from substance abuse to pain management, including deep emotional release.

I am known in the Northwest and globally for 15 years of volunteer community leadership for The Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS), an organization leading the edge at the intersections of consciousness, medicine, science, and world view literacy. To this end, I developed and supported a regional hub of community groups and special focus groups, introducing and catalyzing innovative programs and organizational models for a variety of institutions. Manu of these have spread popularly around the globe. I learned many tools from the coaching world and developed a broad capacity for teaching leadership skills. For the last 10 years, I am certified and practiced with a unique career profiling tool to effectively help those in career transition as well as mastery with leadership issues.

A career long interest in family and organizational systems has yielded some very unique ways of working with couples, families, and groups. I am also trained and experienced with on site corporate programs including critical incident stress management and team leadership. With a belief in empowering individuals through self development and education, I also offer in service trainings for teachers, and continuing education seminars for mental health professionals (nurses, counselors, social workers).
