TRAUMATIC STRESS
We now know that traumatic events change the survivor psychologically and biologically. Traumas of this magnitude include violent assault, exposure to war or terrorism, vehicular collisions, rape, natural disasters, workplace harassment, abuse (such as domestic violence, child and sexual), and threat to oneself or a loved one's life. Assistance is needed to: identify what is wrong, lower anxiety and depressive feelings, reassociate with others, gain a sense of future, deal with the associated grief and anger, and regain control of emotions (feelings).
Untreated trauma is highly predictive of physical illness (i.e., obesity, diabetes, addiction), disrupted family, alienation and poor career performance.
