Therapy Styles: My training is in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, family systems therapy, developmental psychology and self-relations therapy. I also have years of training and experience in facilitating group therapy and in directing psychodrama. In our work together, I will draw on my training and experience to assist you in finding and incorporating the resources you need to find your doorway to growth. In one sense, our instinctive tendencies to avoid certain feelings are what keep us stuck in repeating cycles of unhappiness. The way out is to go in. Locating the source of what stops us in life, and experiencing all the feelings that are there, opens up new meanings and new possibilities. To paraphrase the poet Mary Oliver: Whoever you are, no matter how lonely, joyless, defeated or confused, the world still offers itself to your imagination. There is a life that is uniquely yours, and my commitment is to help you find it. This can be challenging. It can also be a deeply satisfying and exciting adventure.
Areas of Expertise: My work is particularly helpful for people (and couples) who notice they are trapped in repeating cycles of loneliness, joylessness, failure, or chaos and confusion. These cycles are reenactments of what I call personal mythologies. If what you’ve always done to make it in life is no longer working, you’re probably living an outmoded personal myth. My warm, non-judgmental approach is designed to help you appreciate the underlying myth you are living, and then move beyond it into fuller creative expression, success and freedom—and into more honest and connected relationships with others. I offer individual, couples and group therapy.
