Therapy Styles:
In sessions, I will first establish a secure place for you to speak safely about your current situation. I support your setting the agenda for our work together and for clarifying your goals in psychotherapy. I bring insight, patience and common sense practicality to our work together. I sometimes challenge and push, but I always listen as closely as possible. I have post-graduate training in object relations, psychodynamic, interpersonal, relational, group, and retreat facilitation. If you are interested, I would be happy to explain what each of these approaches brings to my work.

Areas of Expertise:
I remain moved and challenged by a basic fact about people: while we long for growth and change, we are powerfully "wired" for stability. Early childhood history and genetics powerfully determine how we think, feel, perceive, remember, and attach to other people. As much as we wish for change in our lives we are disposed to maintain the status quo, keeping things "safe", familiar and unhappy. My training and approach to psychotherapy focuses specifically on this dilemma, to help people move toward growth. The good news is that our minds continue to grow and develop throughout our lifetime. I provide an optimal therapeutic setting for my clients to learn about themselves and how their early "hard-wiring" effects present-day relationships and well-being. This increased self-knowledge brings greater personal choice, and helps to neutralize the internal strictures toward the status quo. My strong belief is that therapy should help you move toward the life you desire and to increase your satisfaction in relationships.

Other information:

I am deeply committed to the process of helping my clients get to the roots of problems with others, or to the core of their own personal struggles. I believe that psychotherapy can bring great value to enhancing our lives. I actively help people get unstuck, deepen their understanding and effectiveness as partners, and improve their sense of well-being.
