Therapy Styles:
I offer psychotherapy for the whole self -- body, mind, heart, and spirit. I draw from a variety of therapeutic methods in order to identify, address, and shift patterns of thinking, feeling, behavior, and relating. I also offer help with practical issues such as parenting strategies, communication skills, and stress management. My style is interactive, collaborative, and flexible.

Areas of Expertise:
Support for the present, healing from the past, deepening self-knowledge to guide you on your path. I specialize in: Parenting of infants, toddlers, and preschoolers (including postpartum adjustment and parents' personal issues); Life transitions (making or adjusting to changes, restoring equilibrium); EMDR for recovery from trauma (including sexual abuse, childhood abuse/neglect, and traumatic loss). Other areas of expertise: Anxiety, panic, and chronic worry; sexual orientation issues; midlife issues.

Other information:

Breadth of life experience has given me empathy for and understanding of the wide range of issues clients bring into my office; and breadth of training has given me flexibility and resourcefulness in how I work with clients' different personality styles, issues, and goals.

Before becoming a therapist, I earned a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature and taught writing and literature at the college level. I received my therapy training in the UW School of Social Work, with an internship in cognitive-behavioral therapy at Group Health, followed by training in psychodynamic and object relations therapy at COR Northwest Family Development Center; in personality theory at the Trifold School of Enneagram Studies; and in EMDR, a neurological-based therapy. I taught parent education through North Seattle Community College for 8 years. My therapy practice is influenced by my personal practice of yoga, meditation, and a lifetime of experiences in the mountains.
